Get Flathookedup Inshore flats fishing
Our typical inshore flats fishing can be fun for everyone.  Weather you’re a novice to an advanced angler the inshore flats has lots of opportunity. Most of the water that is fished is less than 15 minutes to the launch site. The backwaters of Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound and surrounding waters are full of species such as Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout, and a large variety of other targeted species.  The average depth of water fished is about two and a half feet.  Most of the fishing done on the flats is calm water just like fishing on a lake at home.  Many anglers like what the inshore trip has to offer because of the wildlife and variety of species to be caught.

Capt. Jay specializes in Redfish and Tarpon and the inshore flats are prime areas for locating huge schools of redfish or even seeing hundreds of redfish tails out of the water feeding on crustaceans.  Anytime during the year it’s not uncommon to find schools of redfish prowling the shallows looking to feed on whatever they come across.  Sometimes the schools of redfish can reach numbers of 500-1000 fish.  These large schools give you the angler the opportunity to catch more than you can handle in a days trip.  The flats are full of life, from bald eagles to manatee and dolphin, there is always something to see and watch if your not to busy catching fish.

Get Flathookedup Tarpon Fishing
Our area is world renown for its tarpon fishery.  We have in early April tarpon in Charlotte Harbors deep holes that can be fished with live bait or casting artificials.  Also just to the south of us in Pine Island Sound tarpon making their way north for the annual migration tend to set up shop in deep depressions on the flats.  These tarpon are typically traveling in small pods of 10-25 fish.  During their travels the will occasionally stop and feed in these depressions and we target them with live Threadfin Herring or Pinfish under a cork.  The average tarpon in the Harbor and Pine Island Sound tend to be around 80-100 pounds. As we move into the months of May and June the tarpon migration is in full swing.

That means they have arrived in the world famous Boca Grande Pass.  Boca Grande Pass is a world class tarpon fishery.  When the water temperature reaches around 80 degrees the tarpon get into the deep pass of Boca Grande and are there for only one reason…to feed.  With Tarpon being the other species that Capt. Jay specializes in the tarpon trips can be filled with lots of excitement.  From beach fishing to deep jigging Boca Grande Pass tarpon fishing is truly your ticket to a trophy.

Get Flathookedup The “Hill Tide” Tarpon fishing
The “Hill Tide” is what is known as a very strong outgoing tide caused by the new and full moons of May, June and early July.  These strong outgoing tides create a major flow of crab flooding out into the gulf to spawn. When this happens the tarpon go absolutely nuts.  Remember the tarpon are here to feed.  The “Hill Tide” is like opening the door to a buffet.  Literally thousands of small crabs are flushed out with the tide making the tarpon feed on the surface like 150 pound largemouth bass. Most of the trips for the “Hill Tide” are evening trips, there is nothing quite like watching a beautiful sunset on the Gulf of Mexico while you’re fighting your trophy tarpon

Get Flathookedup Extreme Bruiser Fishing
This type of trip can only be described in one word “Giants”.  We are fishing in an area that is known for its very large fish.  I know some of you are thinking what can he mean when he say’s very large fish.  I mean strap you in and hold on kind of fishing.  We fish for Goliath Grouper and very large Shark.  With the goliath grouper sometimes reaching over 350 pounds and using stand up gear fit to stop a train, this style of fishing is nothing more than hardcore tug of war. We also have a little stigma about our area that comes naturally with the tarpon.  Sharks… we have big sharks.  From the world record hammerhead at 1280 pounds caught right here in Boca Grande pass to the always mean 600 pound bull shark.  If you have the desire and you think you have the guts to handle one of these monsters, come on and we will see what you’re made of.

Get Flathookedup Near shore fishing
This is where you the angler get the opportunity to fish for offshore species without having to worry about the rough seas and dealing with that ugly feeling in your stomach.  We fish for grouper, snapper, kingfish, barracuda and cobia on many of the near shore artificial reefs.  Obviously weather is a factor, but if the winds are making the gulf to rough to be comfortable we simply take the trip inside the harbor and do some fishing for the inshore species.
